INTRODUCTION TO REFERENCE SOURCES

Please answer the questions on this worksheet and turn in your work to Ms. Lai at the end of the period.  Answer the questions using the name of the country at the top of this paper as your search topic.  Be sure to write your name, the teacher’s name, period #, and date at the top of the paper.

1. On one of the computers, from the A.P. Giannini Middle School Library home page (http://infospec46.com/apglibrary.html), CLICK on "DESTINY".   CLICK on the "Catalog" tab since the default is "Home".  Using the DESTINY online catalog find one book about your country. TYPE in the country name, CLICK on the Subject button.  FIND a book with a call number of 900 (do not use 920 or 921).   Write down the following information:

2. Now, go to the shelves and look for the book but do not pull the book off the shelf.  Write down the call numbers of the two books on either side of the book you found in the card catalog.

6. From the Home Page for the Library, scroll down to the World Book icon, click on this link. The User Name is apglibrary; password is apgjaguars.  When the home screen for World Book pops up, select  “World Book Student”.  TYPE in the name of the country in the SEARCH box. (Notice the radial buttons below the search box.) CLICK on the RED search button.  NOTICE the Search Results bar on the left.
